WEEKEND UPDATE (26th April 2008)
A hard match against a mix of Ayr and Millbrae players ended
thankfully in a Clydebank win that maintained the winning streak.
Until these clubs begin to realise the meaning of what associated clubs
means and playing by the laws they will continue to mess with the lower
leagues which to them are just a distraction.

WEEKEND UPDATE (19th April 2008)
A big day ended in a big disappointment when the 1stXV lost to
Portobello 11-8. Although Portobello were a very good team the
squad were not given the opportunity to get into their stride with the
referee interpreting the laws differently from most other referees and
subsequently penalising Clydebank almost continuously in the first half.

The mini section took part in a tournament
at Helensburgh competing at three age groups. All the teams
competed well but were up against a number of very good clubs.

WEEKEND UPDATE (30th March 2008)
The Midi U15 section played Lenzie away this weekend and managed
to turn in one of their best performances of the year even though they
didn't manage to score. Playing against a well drilled and
experienced Lenzie team has proven a difficult task in the past but the
squad showed they are improving and managed to restrain the quick Lenzie
backs with excellent defensive tackling.
Meanwhile the Mini section managed two things this weekend that the
seniors didn't and that was to play a match and do it against Paisley
who travelled to Whitecrook.
This was the first match for the Mini
section and marks a major step forward in our development.
Excellent work by Jamie Baxter, Gordon Spence, Robert Hendry, David
Findlay, Alan Bain and Euan McQuarrie who refereed made sure the day was
a great success.
These events would be even better if we
managed to get some more senior members along to help and support.
Although the kids didn't win they were
excited about playing their first match and did manage to score some
tries.

WEEKEND UPDATE (29th March 2008)
2ndXV CHAMPIONS
The 2nd XV team were effectively crowned West 2ndXV Div 6 Champions this
weekend after Loch Lomond forfeited the match due to lack of numbers.
With only one game remaining and needing one point which they will get
simply by just turning up for a home game against Shawlands it is all
over and the title is theirs. David Lennie who has been 2ndXV
Captain/Manager this season celebrated with some other players after a
light training session.

Meanwhile the much hoped for 1stXV Championship
celebrations were put on hold when Paisley called off the match.
It would appear that Paisley felt that the safety of their 1stXV players
was paramount in deciding the pitch at Anchor was unplayable.
Unfortunately, for the Paisley youth team the same concerns were not so
evident when they were allowed to play on the park that had just been
deemed unplayable. A more cynical observer may feel that Paisley
were stretching the laws to the limit in an attempt to call off a match
that would have seen Clydebank crowned champions in Paisley's backyard.
Perhaps Paisley were simply too scared to play the full fifteen Clydebank
players after fourteen beat them in the first half of the season.
The players and officials at the club are
obviously very upset at not having played. With the game being
called off so early given that we are so close and would have been
prepared to have waited right up to kick off before making the decision
it is very annoying.
Next week sees the 1stXV play Mackie at home
in the Quarter Final of the National Plate competition and everyone at
the club is excited and looking forward to the match.

WEEKEND UPDATE (22nd March 2008)
PROMOTION!!!!!!!!
An emphatic win 17-58 away to Hughenden has
clinched promotion back to West Division 1 after only one season away.
The match was a fantastic display by the whole squad who made the club
very proud.
The next match against Paisley on the 29th
March will be a title decider and all the support we can muster is
welcome at Anchor next Saturday.
Not to be out done the 2nd XV moved another
step closer to their title when they gained a top two promotion slot
after Cumnock couldn't raise a team.

WEEKEND UPDATE (15th March 2008)
Mull had a long way to travel to Clydebank in the 3rd Round of
the National Plate Competition and thankfully failed to go home with a
win.
Mull started the game strongly showing their prowess in the driving maul
while Clydebank struggled to find their form.
With a strong wind at their backs Mull should have done better but
Clydebank started to find their form and finished the half 7-0 up.
Going into the second half with the wind it was Clydebank who soon took
control and played controlled rugby throughput the half scoring three
more tries and ending the game 24-0.
The next cup game will be the quarterfinal at home to Mackie from
Aberdeen.

WEEKEND UPDATE (1st March 2008)
The rain gods wiped out the weekend matches when it poured all
day Friday and unusually for Whitecrook left a puddle covering most of
the park on the Saturday. This may have been a sign as the club
were taking part in the West Dunbartonshire Sports Show at the Meadow
Centre in Dumbarton and the extra bodies that turned up to help out were
very welcome. This show gave the club the chance to promote rugby
in the Dunbartonshire area amongst the youth and hopefully expand on the
number of kids playing at Clydebank. The event was a great
showcase for all sports and Clydebank RFC played its part to the full
attracting a lot of interest from all the kids who attended. An
added bonus was an interview on Your Radio with coach Euan McQuarrie,
hopefully this will increase awareness of the club and its activities.
