Weekend News (29th February 2008)

The 2nd XV have a league match against Shawlands this Saturday.  KO is 3pm.

The club will also be taking part in the West Dunbartonshire Sports Show at the Dumbarton Meadow Centre from 10:30 onwards.  Come along and see us and find out about the club.

WEEKEND UPDATE (23rd February 2008)

With the internationals back on this week there were no cup or league games.  To give everyone a game a match was arranged with Lenzie who had most of the club away to Ireland on tour.  The two teams were therefore a mix of all available players, fortunately for Clydebank it looked like we had more to choose from.
The game was well mannered and some good rugby was on show.  Clydebank eventually ran out winners 27-0 with some excellent tries scored including a hat-trick from Robert Parr and one each from Vinnie Nellis and Colin Dow.   .....more

NATIONAL PLATE COMPETITION UPDATE

After last weekends win over Isle of Arran Clydebank have been drawn in the next round of the Plate Competition against Isle of Bute or Bishopton, who have still to play their fixture.

The fixture is at home on 1st March 2008 and should prove to be an entertaining game as we will once again be up against a team looking to knock us off our perch and claim a scalp on the road to Murrayfield.

WEEKEND UPDATE (16th February 2008)

The club was back on the winning track this weekend with both the 1st XV and 2nd XV winning in the National Plate and the league respectively.  The 1st XV travelled to the Isle of Arran in the 2nd Round of the National Plate competition and came away with a hard fought 17-24 win.  After a lot of gamesmanship from the Arran officials and in the face of a hostile crowd the team had a hard but successful day at the office.  The Arran team were a young skilful side but lacked the experience of Clydebank.  The 2nd XV meanwhile welcomed third placed Newton Stewart who fielded a very young squad hoping to run around the more experienced Clydebank team.  As for the 1st XV match, experience was the deciding factor and Clydebank deserved the win 22-7.    ....more

Photos of the encounter are available here.

Finally, could we have suggestions please on what is going on in the following photo.  Please keep your responses clean.

A prize of a box of chocolates to the best answer.

WEEKEND UPDATE (9th February 2008)

The mixture of players who looked for a game this weekend took it upon themselves to emulate the Scotland International team and proceeded to lose the match against Hyndland 15-38 with a plethora of mistakes and fumbles.   ....more

WEEKEND UPDATE (2nd February 2008)

Calder came to Clydebank this weekend for the first round of the Scottish Hydro Electric National Plate competition.  With Calder's superiority complex regarding Clydebank they were obviously expecting to win but as recent experience this season should have told them, they were on to plums.
Clydebank eased through the game with Calder being more like annoying biting flies than a real threat.  Eventually, Clydebank won the game with three tries to one and a score line of 17-16, the kicking being the only down side of the Clydebank game.  This result sees Clydebank go through to the next round of the competition.   ....more

HUMAN INTEREST STORY

Kenny Knox, the Clydebank Rugby Club prodigal son, who plays at Chichester Rugby Club (dan souff) is playing
in the Sussex Salver Final this Sunday.  I hope the skills we taught Kenny help him out in his upcoming match.

I am sure everyone at Clydebank RFC wish him luck.

You can find out more about Chichester Rugby Club here.

WEEKEND UPDATE (26th January 2008)

A rollercoaster ride of a match took the spectators on a wild trip through their emotions but luckily ended in ecstasy when Clydebank finished 15-13 winners.  It was a very tough game against probably the best opposition of the season so far and it all came down to the most heart stopping two minutes at the end of the match.  With Clydebank going into the last few minutes hanging on to a slim 10-6 lead it was a shattering blow when Wigtownshire got a try with two minutes to go and to rub salt into the wounds they converted to extend their lead to 10-13.  The Clydebank players dug deep and in the face of what looked like an impossible task, the spirit that defines true winners came through.  The restart saw Clydebank on the attack and desperate to get a score.  Up the right had side with the Clydebank support screaming them on they rucked their way to the Wigtownshire try line.  After at least a dozen phases of play what looked like the whole squad, and spectators, drove over the line with Jamie Baxter at the bottom with the ball.  As the referee lifted his hand aloft to signify the try the crowd went wild. ...more

WEEKEND UPDATE (19th January 2008)

The 2ndXV took on a strong Braidholm team away with a bit of help from the 1stXV players who were left with nothing else to do after the match against Millbrae was called off
.  A strong performance from all concerned eventually resulted in a close 22-24 win for Clydebank and maintains their position at the top of the table.  .....more

Photos of the encounter are available here.

LEAGUE DATES CONFIRMED

The organisers of the league have done their duty and come up with the fixtures for the second half of the league, eventually.

The first game will be against Millbrae away!

The remaining fixtures are as follows:

19 January 2008 Millbrae AWAY
26 January 2008 Wigtownshire HOME
22 March 2008 Hughenden AWAY
29 March 2008 Paisley AWAY
12 April 2008 Uddingston AWAY

All players are asked to attend training this week to make sure the club is fully prepared for the upcoming match against Millbrae.  Lets not get complacent and throw all the good work so far away.

Also remember that the 2nds have an important match against Braidholm who are currently on course to overtake the 2nds in the league following their away win at Wigtownshire.

TOUR UPDATE

A tour meeting will be held this Thursday 10th January after training.  If you want to go on tour then be there to have your say on where and when it will be.

WEEKEND UPDATE (5th January 2008)

After Oban failed to travel Renfrew stepped in to take their place and heralded the first encounter between Renfrew and Clydebank.  With Clydebank being geared up for a 1stXV encounter against Oban it was unfortunate that Renfrew were on the receiving end of a
65-0 defeat.  Renfrew played well with a strong set of forwards but with a number of inexperienced players they were soon to suffer at the hands of what was a strong Clydebank squad.  ....more

All at the website wish everyone a Happy New Year.

We hope that you have a successful and prosperous year ahead and make sure you all keep winning!!

A meeting will be held soon to discuss the tour.

WEEKEND UPDATE (29th December 2007)

A mixed team of those hardy souls who managed to get out of their beds travelled to Dumbarton for a game against Loch Lomond.  The game looked to be won but from the jaws of victory we managed to get a draw 17-17.    .....more

NOTE - GAME FOR SATURDAY 29th DECEMBER

A game has been arranged for this Saturday 29th December.

All members wishing to play should be at Whitecrook for 12noon on Saturday as the match is away to Loch Lomond.

A provisional selection has been made but this could change, so be there.

WEEKEND UPDATE (15th December 2007)

The 1stXV were not playing this weekend and the 2ndXV were tasked with continuing the Clydebank winning streak
.  This they did in a less than graceful manner, but win they did with a 17-20 score line away against Waysiders.    .....more

The U15's were also in action although they lost 44-12 away to Lenzie.    .....more

CLYDEBANK PLAYER PRESENTS PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD TO WARRIORS PLAYER

Douglas Vallance-Nairn is a stalwart of the Clydebank U15 back line and a fervent supporter of the Glasgow Warriors team.  On the back of his support for the Warriors Douglas was given the honour of presenting
the POTM award on Sunday to the Glasgow Warriors & Scotland player John Barclay.  The presentation took place at Firhill after the Warriors v Biarritz match.

Douglas did his bit for Clydebank Rugby Club when he wore his club shirt while presenting the award to John.  This helps to promote the club and especially make people aware of the youth side of the club which Douglas is a major part of.

Perhaps one day Douglas or players like him who come through the ranks at Clydebank will develop to the point that they are on the receiving end of the same award.  Douglas and his team mates certainly have the potential and have an excellent opportunity not so readily available to earlier generations of players at Clydebank.

WEEKEND UPDATE (8th December 2007)

DON'T PANIC!

Clydebank
did not lose 29-0 as reported on the SRU web site.  Clydebank had a hard game against the conditions but still managed to score 34 points to nil against an aging Braidholm squad.  The outstanding performance of the day was from Scott McIntosh who added three tries to his tally for the season.    .....more

Photos of the 1stXV encounter can be viewed here.

The 2nd XV beat Strathclyde Police with a convincing 44-5 score line with scores across the team although the Laird brothers made it a family affair when both of them scored.  The scores came from Simon Daines (1),Colin Dow (1), Gary Laird (1),  Stewart Laird (1), Matt McCann (2), Alistair Smart (1) and Jim Welson (1) with two conversions from James Roberts.    .....more

YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU

The club are replacing lights in the hall this weekend and need as much help as possible to complete the work.  The work will be done on Saturday, after the matches, and on Sunday.  Please see David Smart to volunteer your services.

WEEKEND UPDATE (1st December 2007)

A return to winning ways with an emphatic win over Hughenden at Whitecrook.  Hughenden are sitting fourth in the league and have been doing well therefore posed a real threat.  In the first half, with the wind at their backs, they looked to be doing better than most have done against this Clydebank team with the score at 13-13.  However, it was double unlucky thirteen for Hughenden as Clydebank stepped up a gear and ran in 29 points in the second half without reply to secure the victory of 42-13 and a well deserved five points.
    .....more

Photos of the 1stXV encounter will be available soon.

The 2nd XV played a stronger Paisley team this week but still managed to win 24-0 with tries from Ronnie McKee (2), David Smart (1), and Jim Welson (1) and two conversions from Robert Parr.    .....more

WEEKEND UPDATE (24th November 2007)

The winning streak came to an end this weekend but the team still remain undefeated.  A hard fought match away from home against Wigtonshire ended in a fair 6-6 draw between two equally determined teams in a howling wind.  With Paisley failing to complete the fixture with Braidholm, like so many before them, Clydebank will remain at the top of the league.  With the same number of games been played the true position of the teams is now evident.
    .....more

Photos of the 1stXV encounter are available here.

The 2nd XV also travelled to Wigtonshire although due to the apathy of so many people the team were left with only thirteen players.  Even with the lack of a full team the players who did turn up played to win.  With the opposition getting the wind at their backs for the first half they took advantage of their extra players and ran in three tries.  With Clydebank getting the wind at their backs in the second half they managed to get one try back to end the match 17-7.   .....more

Photos of the 2ndXV encounter are available here.

The tour party that travelled to Wigtonshire are show below.  Everyone enjoyed themselves and the event brought back memories of bus trips of years gone by that reinforces the spirit of the club at the moment and bodes well for the foreseeable future.

The U15's lost to a East Kilbride 10-15 in a close match that neither team dominated.  The Clydebank boys played well but failed to turn their possession into points when it counted.

Further details including photos can now be viewed on the dedicate youth site at youth.clydebankrfc.com .

WEEKEND UPDATE (17th November 2007)

Another win, this time over Uddingston who looked like they believed they could overturn the 1stXV run of victories.  As shown last year, although we were both relegated, Clydebank still came out on top.
    .....more

Photos of the 1stXV encounter can be viewed here.

The 2nd XV returned to winning ways although this time in a friendly with Whitecraigs 3rdXV.  A well mannered match was enjoyed by both teams although Clydebank ran out winners 24-5.    .....more

The U15's lost to a very good Hamilton team 0-43.    .....more

Further details including photos can now be viewed on the dedicate youth site at youth.clydebankrfc.com .

WEEKEND UPDATE (10th November 2007)

A functional display without much flair was enough to ensure the win and bonus point in this hard fought match.  Clydesdale played well, defending against the early Clydebank attacked but ran out of steam when the Clydebank fitness eventually took its toll late into the second half.  Tries from Paul Andrew, Jamie Baxter, David Miller and Ian Starkey ensured the bonus point and keeps Clydebank at the top of the league.
    .....more

Photos of the 1stXV encounter can be viewed here.

The 2nd XV game was eventually cancelled due to last minute call offs.  The selection was made even harder with the added complication of the older veterans being away for their visit to the healing baths in Aviemore (see below) in an attempt to cure their anal seepage complaints.  The result is that the 2nd XV unbeaten league run came to an end with a whimper.

The U15's played and beat Cumbernauld 27-20, something the senior team hasn't done for a long time.  The team clicked for the first time this season and showed just what they can do.  An all round effort made this a great game, not just for the players but for the spectators who went along to watch.    .....more

NEW ADDITION TO THE CAMERON FAMILY

Congratulations are due to Alan Cameron and his wife who have extended the Cameron clan with the birth of Leon.  Hopefully, both Aidan and Leon will continue the tradition of rugby in the Cameron family.

WEEKEND UPDATE (4th November 2007)

A last minute try from the irrepressible Ross McCombe rounded off a hard fought 15-22 win against Strathaven for the 1st XV in a game that Strathaven wanted to win more.  However, winning this sort of tough away fixture is what counts and with the bonus point it adds another five points to the total.  This result in conjunction with Paisley failing to get the bonus point means Clydebank are top of the table at last.
    .....more

Photos of the 1stXV encounter can be viewed here.

The 2nd XV eventually put together fifteen players with the help of some fringe players like David Goode who made a fine one off comeback.  With Lomond unfortunately being unable to match this and fielding only thirteen players this game was going to be one way traffic and with a 73-12 final result that is what happened.    .....more

Photos of the 2ndXV encounter can be viewed here.

The U15 went to Bishopbriggs to take on Alan Glens.  Glens however had to field several over age players to allow the game to proceed but gracefully conceded the result.  The young Clydebank team played well in parts but were overwhelmed by the larger more experienced Glens team.  Although they lost the match they got the result.    .....more

Photos of the U15 encounter can be viewed here.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

The matches this weekend will be a 2pm kick off.  meetings are as follows:

1st XV:   11:30am - Match away to Strathaven with 2pm KO.

2nd XV:   12:30am - Match at home to Lomond with 2pm KO.

We would also like to point out that the numbers at training are falling and this is a trend that needs to stop if this club has any hope of winning.  If you are not training then you are failing yourself and the club.  Please let the coaches know if you are unavailable for training.  Lets not fall into the same rut as happened in so many seasons in the past.  If you don't train then do not expect to win.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

Seven in a row and the Clydebank 1st and 2nd XVs keep winning.  Both teams were playing Paisley in their respective leagues.  The 1stXV had a top of the table tussle that was shaping up to be a clash of the form teams.  With a lot at stake the game was very tense and after some unfortunate incidents and some questionable language from players and officials, Clydebank were down to fourteen men for most of the game.  The resolve of the team showed when they won the game 17-6 and drew level on points at the top of the table, although they still remain second in the league as Paisley have a better points difference albeit with one more game played.  The 2nd XV had an easier time of it when they travelled to Anchor and returned with a score of 61-0 in the bag.    .....more

Photos of the 1stXV encounter can be viewed here.

The U15 team were less fortunate when they lost ten tries to two against a very good Helensburgh team.  The next league game for the U15's is Uddingston at home on Saturday 28th October.  Senior players should make an effort to go along and support the future of the club.

The training continues to be good but we still reiterate that it needs to be maintained and hopefully bettered if the club is to maintain the momentum it has established, therefore, come to training and make sure we keep winning.  ....(more)

Next week sees the 1stXV play Strathclyde Police away in the second round of the National Cup, while the 2ndXV are at home to Cumnock 2nd XV.  All playing members are requested to make themselves available for these matches and call on to David Miller or Ronnie McKee.

SIX OUT OF SIX

Yet again the results keep coming.  The 2nd XV match was forfeited by Wigtonshire who unfortunately could not get a team to travel while the 1st XV travelled to Kilmalcolm to take on Birkmyre who they beat convincingly by 5-65.  .....more

The next league game for the U15's is Helensburgh away on Saturday 21st October.  Senior players should make an effort to go along and support the future of the club.

Next week sees the 1stXV play Paisley at home, while the 2ndXV go in the opposite direction to take on Paisley 2nd XV.  All playing members are requested to make themselves available for these matches and call on to David Miller or Ronnie McKee.

WEEKEND UPDATE

A summary of results for Saturday 13th October 2007 are as follows and the report and photos will follow up later.

1stXV  -  Win away against Birkmyre in the league 5-65.  (Ignore the SRU Web Site which has it wrong again!!)

2ndXV  -  Win at home against Wigtonshire in the league.  Wigtonshire couldn't travel and forfeited the match.

OWEN GENT DOING WELL

As most people will know by now Owen Gent suffered a serious injury during the 2nd XV match against Shawlands last Saturday 6th October.

This was a neck injury although it is reported not to have resulted in spinal damage and we all hope Owen will make a full recovery.

Although Owen is in hospital, and he is immobilized due to the injury, he is reported to be in good spirits and is receiving visitors, within reason.

Owen like a lot of the younger players at the club has a fantastic attitude towards rugby and his enthusiasm helps us all realize what a great game it is.

I am sure everyone at the club and everyone who knows Owen wishes him a speedy recovery and we all look forward to seeing him soon.

MALKY McKAY MAKES IT TO 50!!!!

Malky has reached the half century without finding himself in prison, the lunatic asylum and more importantly still alive and well.

To celebrate this fantastic effort Malcolm is having a party at the rugby club in Whitecrook this Saturday night.  Those members who know Malcolm and played along side him in his heyday are welcome to go along and help him celebrate, just don't expect him to buy a round.

For those who don't know Malcolm, he was a key player at the club when the club was at its height in the eighties and early nineties and was instrumental in a lot of the clubs successes and a major character in many of the club tours.

Malcolm was a formidable open side wing forward who took no prisoners in the tackle or in the bar afterwards.  It was a great pleasure to play along side Malcolm and I personally look forward to him returning as a player when the club restart a 3rd XV later in the season.  Happy birthday Malky.

MINI RUGBY HAS STARTED AT CLYDEBANK

On Sunday 7th of October the club restarted the mini section in the hope that it can continue the excellent work initiated by Ross McCombe and David Smart.  The aim is to attract kids at Primary School into rugby and hopefully ensure a source of players for the future.

The session was a great success with seventeen kids, boys and girls, of all ages attending.  This is a good start and indications are that this will improve.  However, we would encourage members to come along and help out.

Anyone who would like their kids to take part or know of any kids who might be interested should contact Gordon McCombe (Mob No. 07812 582775) for details.

FAMOUS FIVE IN A ROW

It is great to be writing this as yet again both teams win.

The 1st XV made it a first in the National Cup First Round beating Calder 18-3 at Whitecrook while the 2nd XV travelled to Cartha to play Shawlands in the league.  .....more

Photos of the 1stXV encounter can be viewed here.

The Clydebank 2nd XV beat Shawlands 3-15 and once again remain at the top of the 2ndXV league.  .....more

The Clydebank U15 squad played their second league game against Lenzie at Whitecrook.  They lost 12-29 although the potential is still evident.  Two quick tries from Lenzie when they scored from the kick offs of previous scores skewed the result and flattered the Lenzie team.  The points came from two fine tries by Robert Stevenson and a conversion by Jack McCombe.  Photos can be viewed here.

Next week is a school holiday with no game on the Sunday.  The next league game for the U15's is Helensburgh away on Saturday 21st October.  Senior players should make an effort to go along and support the future of the club.

The training continues to be good but we still reiterate that it needs to be maintained and hopefully bettered if the club is to maintain the momentum it has established, therefore, come to training and make sure we keep winning.  ....(more)

Next week sees the 1stXV play Birkmyre away, while the 2ndXV entertain Wigtonshire.  All playing members are requested to make themselves available for these matches and call on to David Miller or Ronnie McKee.

WEEKEND UPDATE

The weekend was one of highs and lows.  The highs were both senior teams winning and an excellent start to the Mini Section on Sunday.  The lows were the U15s losing and more significantly the injury to Owen Gent.

Owen is reported to be in a stable condition although he has broken several bones around his neck.  There is no spinal damage and he may have to undergo surgery during the week.  Members are asked to pass any cards or items for Owen via the club and refrain from visiting him until his family give permission.

The club would like to pass on its combined best wishes to Owen and hope that he has a speedy recovery.

A summary of the weekends results are as follows and the report and photos will follow up later.

1stXV  -  Win at home against Calder in the cup 18-3.

2ndXV  -  Win away against Shawlands in the league 3-15.

U15  -  Lost at home to Lenzie 12-29.

MINI RUGBY

The club will be starting a Mini Rugby section with the first session to be held this Sunday 7th October.

The session will start at 12 noon at Whitecrook and is aimed at all kids at Primary School from P1 to P7 who would like to try out rugby.

If you have any kids within that age bracket or know of anyone who would like to come along please let them know and make an effort to attend.

It is also important we get help from the members to help run this and would encourage any one interested to come along and help out.

As an added attraction the U15 team will be playing a home game after the training session against Lenzie.

If you are interested in knowing more then please contact Gordon McCombe on 07812 582775 or email webmaster.

FANTASTIC FOUR FROM FOUR

Both teams do it again.

The 1st XV made it a fourth win beating Calder 29-10 at Whitecrook while the 2nd XV achieved their victory when Hamilton failed to field fifteen players.  .....more

Photos of the 1stXV encounter can be viewed here.

The Clydebank 2nd XV travelled to Hamilton and received the default win and 20-0 score as Hamilton could only muster nine players.  A bounce game was hastily organised with the two squads making up two thirteen-a-side teams.  The bolstered Hamilton team consisting of a good set of Hamilton based backs won the match.  This should keep them at the top of the 2ndXV league.  .....more

To complete the weekends rugby the Clydebank U15 squad took on Cambuslang at Whitecrook in the first of their league games.  Although they lost 10-17 they showed a lot of excellent rugby both in attack and in defence.  The ten points came from two fine tries by Fraser Campbell.  Photos can be viewed here.

Next week sees the U15's play Lenzie at home in their second league fixture.  Senior players should make an effort to go along and support the future of the club.

The training was good last week but will have to be maintained and hopefully bettered if the club is to maintain the momentum it has established, therefore, come to training and make sure we keep winning.  ....(more)

Next week sees the 1stXV play Calder at home again, this time in the cup competition, while the 2ndXV visit Shawlands.  All playing members are requested to make themselves available for these matches and call on to David Miller or Ronnie McKee.

TOUR 2008

It is time to start thinking about next years tour.
We will be returning to the practice of touring on the same date as a Scotland international when we travel to Limerick on 22nd February next year.

The tour will run from the Friday to the Sunday.

Anyone wishing to go on this tour should pay an initial deposit of £40 to Peter Watson as soon as possible.

A meeting will be held soon to discuss the tour.

INTERNATIONAL TICKETS

The Six-Nations international tickets can now be ordered from Alan Bain.  Check out details here.

TRIPLE TRIUMPH

The multiple descriptive headlines continue with both teams winning yet again.  The best start for a long time is certainly giving the club a boost, making the rugby enjoyable for all involved and making thinking up new headlines harder each time.

It is now for the third week the 1st XV clocked up another win beating McLaren 10-62 away.  .....more

And not to be out done, the Clydebank 2nd XV beat a strong Waysiders/Drumpellier 2ndXV 44-38 in a hard fought end to end match that will keep them at the top of the 2ndXV league.  .....more

Photos of the 1stXV encounter can be viewed here.

Although things are looking positive at the moment and there is some confidence and enthusiasm around the club just now it is only there because there are a lot of people training so lets all make an effort to attend training.  If we do then the club will keep winning and we all feel a lot better when we are winning. ....(more)

Next week sees the 1stXV play Calder at home while the 2ndXV visit Hamilton to take on their 3rdXV in the 2ndXV league, weird but true.  All playing members are requested to make themselves available for these matches and call on to David Miller or Ronnie McKee.

DOUBLE WHAMMY

For the second week the 1st XV clocked up another win beating Millbrae 27-15.  .....more

And yet again, playing with fourteen players, the Clydebank 2ndXV won beating Strathclyde Police 2ndXV 5-10.  .....more

AWAY WIN AGAINST DUNFERMLINE 3rd XV

A good win against the Dunfermline 3rdXV with a travelling squad makes this two wins out of two so far.

A total of five tries and two conversions against two converted tries from Dunfermline made the final score 14-31.

A full match report is available here and photos can be viewed here.

HOME WIN AGAINST LOCH LOMOND

A young squad ran out against an older and some would have said a more experienced Lomond team.  However, Clydebank played well to hold Lomond and eventually win the match 8-5 with a try from Ronnie McKee and a conversion from Michael Starkey.

A full match report is available here and photos can be viewed here.

Next week sees the club travel to Dumfermline in the last game before the leagues start with the 1st and 2ndXV teams both taking on Braidholm.

THE WEEKEND AHEAD

The club were to play Alan Glens 2ndXV this weekend but looks like they also have the same problem a lot of clubs have at this time, insufficient players and therefore are unable to guarantee that they will field a 2nd XV.  Therefore, that game has now been cancelled.

However, Loch Lomond have agreed to visit Whitecrook this weekend and fulfil the fixture they missed a few weeks ago.  Therefore, meet will be 12:30 for 1pm with a 2pm kick-off.  All members are encouraged to attend as all players who turn up will play.  After the game Scotland take on South Africa.

Following the game the club will host a disco at Whitecrook on Saturday evening.  Again, all members are requested to support this event.

TENS TOURNAMENT

The Tens Tournament proved to be a great success even though the weather tried its hardest to dampen spirits and make the rugby difficult.

A total of ten teams from seven clubs eventually took part with Clydebank fielding two squads from their 30+ turnout, an excellent turn out for preseason games.

With two teams calling off there was a slight reconfiguration of the tournament.  Although the wet conditions proved difficult the games went smoothly and all games were completed.

Clydebank 'A' unfortunately finished last in their group but due to the reconfiguration they went straight to the final of the Bowl competition where they met Loch Lomond.  Unluckily for Clydebank, Lomond won the match to finish Bowl champions.

The second place teams from the group stages fought out the semi finals of the Plate competition with Calder and Hughenden meeting in the final.  The strength of Hughenden proved the difference and they ended the day as Plate champions.

The winners of the group stages fought out the Cup semi finals with Strathclyde Police and Strathendrick 'A' making it to the final.  This proved an equal competition although Strathendrick won out with a converted try beating.the sole penalty conversion from the Police.

The tournament was well supported by the local referees who managed the games well in the harsh conditions and allowed the games to flow.

A full report of the event can be viewed here.

U15 RUGBY RESTARTS

With the schools going back it is time to get the boots out from under the stairs, brush them clean and get back to the rugby.

Ross McCombe will be starting training at 6pm on Tuesday 21st August so those that played last year and any new players should be at Whitecrook ready and eager by 6pm.

The U15 side will be playing in a league this year with the first league game on 23rd September.  You can check out the complete fixture list here.

TENS TOURNAMENT

The tournament will start at 12 Noon and run to approximately 5:30pm on Saturday 18th August.  A copy of the flyer can be downloaded before the event detailing program and match schedule.

.

A total of twelve teams will now take part after a late substitution with Strathendrick providing a second squad to replace Helensburgh who are washing their hair that day.  These teams will compete in four groups of three teams and will play for a total of three trophies this year.

The James McCombe Cup The Tens Plate The Tens Bowl

The event was last held in 2006 when Loch Lomond were the winners and they return again this year (hopefully) to try and retain their crown.

Everyone is encouraged to bring along the family and enjoy a day out having something to eat and drink while watching some entertaining rugby.

A Bouncy Castle will be available for the kids so don't forget to bring them along.

The weather looks like it should be mild so put a reminder in your diary and make sure you come along to support Clydebank Rugby Club.

TRIAL MATCH vs LOCH LOMOND

Unfortunately Loch Lomond could not fulfil this fixture due to a lack of numbers.

However, with the strong turnout from our own players we took advantage and had a successful skills session ending in a ten-a-side match in readiness for next weeks Tens Tournament.

Everyone is needed next week as the club will be fielding a 1st and 2nd team in the tournament along with supporting a Vets team consisting of past members.  Any current members wishing to take part in the Vets team should come along or see Jim Boyd before next Saturday.

TRIAL MATCH vs LOCH LOMOND

The first competitive match is this weekend at Whitecrook against Loch Lomond.

Meet time is 12 noon with a kick off at 1pm.  The early kick off is due to the SRUs pish poor planning again, apparently no one else in Scotland plays rugby when the national team are getting beat again!!

Club Day Result

The Club Day proved to be a resounding success and was enjoyed by all who attended.

A variety of games were used to promote the club spirit and challenge the skill level of the players.

Check out the summary page for the event here.

Remember all members are encourage to attend training this week and aim to be at the first competitive game at home next week against Loch Lomond.  With Loch Lomond now our more senior neighbours we have a big challenge ahead of us.

CLUB DAY
Remember this Saturday 4th Aug starting at 1pm is the Club Day which is aimed at both a team building exercise and a start to playing.
This will effectively be a trial and will give the coaching/selection committee a chance to see who will be available to play and in what positions.  This season will provide a lot of opportunities for anyone keen to make their mark so be there.
There are numerous prizes to be won on Saturday so come along and have some fun.
Food and drink will be provided after the trial matches.

Warriors Touch Tournament
The Clydebank squad that took part in this tournament did the club very proud on Sunday.

This years performance was a step up from last years producing a win against Alan Glens (5-1), a draw against Cambuslang (2-2) and two losses against Hawks and Marr although Marr followed directly after what can be described as an extremely fast and tough yet entertaining game against the Hawks.  In the end the squad finished second in the group.  Photos of the group games can be viewed here.

Cup News
The first XV have been drawn against Calder in the first Cup game of the season on Saturday 6th October 2007.  This should be an interesting encounter as it follows immediately after the home league game against the same team on Saturday 29th September 2007.

Management Committee Meeting
The first management meeting of the season will take place this Wednesday 1st August 2007.

Up Coming Events
The club are taking part in the Warriors Tens Tournament this Sunday 29th July.  They face Hawks, last years winners, and Cambuslang in the first round with first game kicking off at 12:40pm.  The event is being held at Whitecraigs Rugby Club and members are encouraged to go along and support.  The squad for the tournament is as follows:

David Miller Ross Moffat Peter Watson Euan Cuthbert Vinnie Nellis
David Kirkwood Michael Starkey Ross Douglas Craig Shearer Joe Moore
Scott Fraser

Next Saturday will be the Club day and trial and all members looking to play are required to attend.  This will consist of a light training session followed by a series of Trial Matches that will allow the coaching and selection committee to select the teams for subsequent matches.  Following the matches the club will be providing food and drink to reward those that attend.  See below for an update to the training attendance.

On the 25th August the club is arranging a Disco/Party night at Whitecrook.  Members should see Peter Watson for tickets.

Facilities Management
You will notice a new menu item above.  This has been added to direct you to the need for maintenance of our aging facility.  There are a number of tasks outstanding that need to be carried out in order to keep the Whitecrook facility running smoothly.  David Smart has highlighted the areas needing immediate attention and members are asked to review the list and volunteer to help complete the tasks.
Without this work the Whitecrook facility will just become harder to maintain in future.
We need to maintain this facility and project a good image of Clydebank Rugby club to the visiting clubs and to the general public who visit and use this facility.  Please make a point of viewing this list and volunteering.

PRE-SEASON TRAINING - Update
It has started although most of the members don't appear to have noticed.

Training will be organised around teams with end of pre-season prizes for the best team and individual.  Teams have been set up as follows with team leaders marked i
