Misery at Millbrae
Clydebank 1st XV lost out by 34-7 to a well seasoned Millbrae
team away from home by putting in their worst team performance for over
three years.
Clydebank looked to be well off their game throughout the match as the
Millbrae players ran amok through a weak Clydebank midfield that failed
to turn up on the day.
Millbrae opened the scoring within minutes of the kickoff with a well
worked move off a lineout that saw their centre dance through the gaping
holes left by the Clydebank defence.
Only minutes later and they did they same again to lead 10-0 with ten
minutes on the clock.
Clydebank looked dazed and confused as they came to terms with their
predicament but rallied to slow down the free running Millbrae attack
for the next twenty minutes.
With the onslaught halted Clydebank managed to get some cohesion and
scored a try after some good forwards work in the Millbrae 22 metre
area. The forwards were
mauling the ball towards the line when Ross Moffatt made the break,
feeding Derek Nolan who finished off the move by crossing the line. Moffatt added the conversion from a tight angle to keep Clydebank
in the match.
The respite was broken with five minutes of the half remaining. Clydebank went into another period of disarray and allowed
Millbrae to score a penalty and run in another converted try to finish
the first half 24-7 ahead.
The Clydebank players started the second half with a bit more
determination and with the slope to their advantage they should have had
the chance to come back into the match. Unfortunately, their practice in recent matches, of getting into
the opposition 22 metre area and losing possession by giving away
penalties returned to haunt them and every opportunity soon went a
begging.
Millbrae finished off the match with two rather controversial tries but
this did not take away from their domination of the match and their
deserved win.
The Clydebank U15’s played Allan Glens on Sunday but lost out by 10-32. The boys played very well in attack throughout the game,
especially in the second half and looked dangerous with the ball in
hand. They dominated up
front, in the lineout and were only let down by poor first time tackling
and naivety at the breakdown.
The Clydebank scores came from tries by Jake Anderson and Mark Woodcock.
The Clydebank Mini section once again combined with Loch Lomond to go to
a tournament at Glasgow Academicals in Anniesland.Between the two clubs there were three teams at P4, P5 and a P6/7
mix.

All the teams showed
how they have improved over the last year as they competed well against
the likes of Allan Glens, Garnock and Accies who all have well
established youth teams.
The Mini section will now take a break over the Christmas period, starting back on the 10th January.
