Damp Performance at Braidholm
Once again the weather took its toll on the weekend’s rugby
and the Clydebank 1st XV league fixture against
local rivals Loch Lomond was cancelled.
Given that it was also an international weekend, and certainly one to
remember after Scotland’s historic win over Australia, a friendly match
was hastily arranged with Braidholm from Clarkston.
A mixed bag of players turned up for the match and travelled
across the city for a runabout. However, the opponents were a team recovering from
demotion the previous year and who are going through a
revival led by a host of talented young players. The mixed approaches were to show on the field as
Clydebank failed to demonstrate much cohesion while the
Braidholm youngsters ran the show.
The Clydebank forwards did manage to show a lot control in
the scrums early on but were soon to lose their advantage
when Braidholm lost one of their props through injury, and
without a replacement the scrums went to uncontested
affairs.
Braidholm eventually ran out winners by four tries to two
with the only Clydebank scores coming from Jamie Boyd and
Joe Moore who lit up the Clydebank forwards with his
explosive individual performance.
The Braidholm tries came from good attacking running by
their backs who evaded weak Clydebank tackling.
The weather also hit the youth rugby on the Sunday when all
fixtures were off.
A highlight of the weekend for the Clydebank
youth section was the appearance of young Ryan Girvan as a mascot for
Scotland at the international against Australia. Ryan appeared with the Scotland squad at the start of the match
and proudly represented his club and country.
