Robin Veitch (MBE) Passes Away
For five decades Robin Veitch
MBE has championed the cause of Clydebank Rugby Club ensuring the
provision and continuance of rugby in the greater Clydebank area.
Robin served as a player,
referee, team selector, management member, Chairman and President of the
club.
Robin was Chairman from 1982
to 1990 then President from 1990 to 2003 when he retired and moved home
from the Clydebank area to Killearn.
He was widely known
in the business community as an astute businessman. It
was his business acumen in the early days of Clydebank rugby
that procured for the club a number of business ventures
which gave the club a sound financial base. This capital
facilitated the club to take ownership of Whitecrook Sports
Centre when the local authorities were planning to change
its purpose and perhaps sell the ground. There is no doubt
that, without Robin's business flare, the club would not
have the fabulous facilities we now enjoy.
Robin was the most energetic of
club members always ensuring that his philosophy regarding rugby was
known and understood by all. Robin's philosophy embodied all that is good
in the game of rugby, fair play, it's the game that counts, we are
privileged to play and serve the game. This attitude endeared him to
rugby enthusiasts across Scotland.
Robin was a founder member and
main promoter of the club. He was the father figure of the club, the
corner stone of the club, always reliable and there to give best advice
towards the advancement of the club and rugby football.
We, Clydebank Rugby Club and
Scottish Rugby will dearly miss Robin.
