Carrick Blown Away by Clydebank

Clydebank didn't take full advantage of the wind in the first half against Carrick at home with a narrow 11-0 lead at half time.

However, a strong team effort in the second half managed to offset an early second half Carrick try to keep them ahead and win 16-7.

The 2nd XV travelled to play the Police and came back with their first win of the season when they scored six tries to win 38-27.

Battle of Stranraer

Clydebank travelled to Stranraer to play Wigtownshire but failed to come away with any result when they lost by 9-0, losing out on the bonus point.

The match was a tough battle with all reserves being required through injury.

The result is not a major set back as this was always going to be a major away fixture and most teams in this league will struggle to overcome Wigtownshire away.

The 2nd XV also travelled to Stranraer but this time they finished the match victorious with six tries and two conversions without reply giving a score of 0-34.

Like the 1stXV match this was also a battle that saw a number of injuries leave both teams with twelve players by the end of the match.

The 2ndXV team have now had two straight victories and will hope to extend this over the coming weeks.

The U17 were the only junior team to play on the Sunday facing a combined Cambuslang/East Kilbride XV.

The result was one sided but the boys did their best and hopefully learned something from the experience.

Comeback Crushes Cumnock

This should have been a comfortable win but changes in the team and a reinvigorated Cumnock team made sure Clydebank had to work for the result.

With Clydebank trailing 5-20 at half time it took a lot of character from the boys to bring it back from the brink and take the points, including the first bonus point of the season.

Graeme Kyle bagged a hat-trick while Don Ross added a brace to complete the try count.  Ross Moffatt added the single conversion.

The 2nd XV continued their recent run of good form with another victory when the finished 26-20 winners against Cumnock.

There were a total of four tries with Ronnie McKee eventually adding his first for the year.

Paolo Camillo added a fine individual effort with a forty yard run to touch down under the posts.

The star of the show was Jamie Boyd who scored two fine tries and added the conversions for his own scores.

Ali Smart completed the scoring with a single conversion.

The U15 team travelled to Lenzie to take on a team who are usually very skilled.  Lenzie won the match 37-7 with Clydebank adding their only score at the death with a try from Calum Smith and a conversion for Jack Kirkwood.  Ryan Parker put put in a great performance throughout, especially in defence.

Fintry Flourish Foils Clydebank

Clydebank 1st and 2nd XV squads were both away from home and struggling to field teams as a number of players were unavailable or injured.  As a consequence the results went a begging when the 1st XV lost 22-15 away to Strathendrick and the 2nd XV lost 7-0 away to Paisley.

The 1stXV have had a good record against Strathendrick in recent years and were more than capable of overcoming them away at Fintry.  However, an overtly aggressive Strathendrick side combined with a ten minute spell of madness from the Clydebank defence managed to put a stop to Clydebank's ambitions on the day.

The 2nd XV failed to maintain their winning form when they lost 7-0 to Paisley away.

Robin Veitch

Robin Veitch (MBE) Passes Away

It is with deep sadness that we have to announce that Robin Veitch passed away on Monday 26th October.

Robin was a founding member of the rugby club and played a large part in its growth over the years.

Robin will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him and the club will be an emptier place, and the sidelines less entertaining, without him.

The funeral service was held at Killearn Kirk, on Monday, 2nd November.  This was a well attended occasion that reflected how well known and liked Robin was in so many areas.  The rugby club was well represented with members past and present attending to show their respects.

Donations, if wished, to the British Heart Foundation.

Oban Spooked by Clydebank on Halloween

Clydebank 1st and 2nd XV squads were both at home again this week against Oban and Hillhead/Jordanhill respectively.

The 1st XV managed to compete well for a fine 30-14 win with the addition of a bonus point from four tries being scored.  The 2nd XV held out against top of the table Hillhead/Jordanhill but eventually succumbed in the later stages to lose 5-49.

Unfortunately, the result was tempered by the loss this week of Robin Veitch who passed away on Monday 26th October at home in Killearn.  To honour Robin’s memory a minutes silence was held at the start of the two matches.
