Mini Update It has been a while since
there was any update on the Mini rugby and in that time
we have done quite a lot. The following is a
summary of what has been going on.
18th April
The Minis travelled to Helensburgh for their first
tournament and had a great day. We fielded three
age groups of P1-P3, P4-P5 and P6-P7. All teams
competed well with the P4-P5 being the most successful
on the day. (Click on the photos to go to
the photo gallery)

18th May
Local club Loch Lomond visited Clydebank for a match
although due to a lack of numbers the teams were a mix
of players from both clubs. Two matches were
played. (Click on the photos to go to the
photo gallery)

1st June
A follow up from the earlier fixture against Lomond
was a similar affair with two mixed matches being
played. (Click on the photos to go to the
photo gallery)

8th June
The season has ended and a fun day was organised to
allow the kids to wind down and let everyone have some
fun. A number of games were played by three groups
with the top three from each group receiving prizes and
medals although everyone did go away with a party bag
and medal. (Click on the photos to go to the
photo gallery)

Upcoming Mini Dates Sunday 13th April
will be a training day starting at 12 noon. If you
don't already have a gum shield then please see Gordon
McCombe to receive your free one.
Sunday 20th April will be a tournament at Helensburgh.
This is likely to be a long day as the tournament starts
at 11:30am. All players should meet at Whitecrook
for 10:15am as we will leave no later than 10:30am.
Again we would ask parents to come along and provide
transport if possible. We would also propose that
each player bring a pack lunch and some drinks
(preferably water) with them in addition to warm
clothing to wear between matches. There are a
number of clubs attending and so we expect there to be
several matches for each age group.
At the moment all dates beyond the 20th April will
consist of training although we will endeavour to seek
out fixtures.

Weekend Update (6th April 2008) The Mini Section
travelled to Fort Matilda at the weekend to play Greenock
Wanderers and Waysiders/Drumpellier.
We fielded three squads consisting of P2-P4, P5 and P6-P7.
The coaches and parents all enjoyed the day out and the kids
scored plenty of tries which makes it enjoyable for all.
The hospitality of Greenock Wanderers was exceptional and a
big thank is due to them for organizing the day.

Mini Match Sunday 6th April We have another match
arranged at Greenock Wanderers this weekend and will be looking for
transport for all the kids.
There will be matches involving Greenock, Clydebank and Waysiders.
This will involve a number of matches at each age group.
The matches will kick off about 1pm at Fort Matilda and will likely
run until 2 to 3pm.
We need all the help we can to get the kids to Greenock and will need
help from as many people as we can. Please let Gordon McCombe
(07812 582775) know if you can make it. |

Weekend Update (30th March 2008) The Midi U15 section played Lenzie away this weekend
and managed to turn in one of their best performances of the year even
though they didn't manage to score. Playing against a well drilled
and experienced Lenzie team has proven a difficult task in the past but
the squad showed they are improving and managed to restrain the quick
Lenzie backs with excellent defensive tackling.
Meanwhile the Mini section managed two things this weekend that the
seniors didn't and that was to play a match and do it against Paisley
who travelled to Whitecrook.
This was the first match for the Mini section and
marks a major step forward in our development. Excellent work by
Jamie Baxter, Gordon Spence, Robert Hendry, David Findlay, Alan Bain and
Euan McQuarrie who refereed made sure the day was a great success.
These events would be even better if we managed to
get some more senior members along to help and support.
Although the kids didn't win they were excited about
playing their first match and did manage to score some tries.

U15 Lose Against Cowal (17th February 2008) The U15's
lose away to Cowal but receive the points due to Cowal fielding over age
players. A single try from Liam Conlin was the only score for
Clydebank but good effort all round from the rest of the players.
 |
|
U15 Lose Against Waysiders (20th January 2008) The U15's
lose to a bigger and older Waysiders/Drumpellier team but come away with
the result as Waysiders forfeited the match due to their use of overage
players.

CLYDEBANK PLAYER PRESENTS AWARD TO WARRIORS PLAYER
Douglas
Vallance-Nairn is a stalwart of the Clydebank U15 back line and a
fervent supporter of the Glasgow Warriors team. On the back of his
support for the Warriors Douglas was given the honour of presenting the POTM award on Sunday to the Glasgow
Warriors & Scotland player John Barclay. The presentation took
place at Firhill after the Warriors v Biarritz match.
Douglas did his bit for Clydebank Rugby Club when he wore
his club shirt while presenting the award to John. This helps to
promote the club and especially make people aware of the youth side of
the club which Douglas is a major part of.
Perhaps one day Douglas or players like him who come
through the ranks at Clydebank will develop to the point that they are
on the receiving end of the same award. Douglas and his team mates
certainly have the potential and have an excellent opportunity not so
readily available to earlier generations of players at Clydebank.

Mini Rugby Update 11th November 2007 The SRU visited
Whitecrook this week in the form of Kenny Murray the Regional
Development Manager. Kenny put the kids through their paces and
introduced some exercises that the coaches can adapt in the coming weeks
to teach the kids how to play the game.
We are hoping to take part in a tournament in the coming weeks and
will let everyone know as soon as possible. |
